This
old lady became a national hero, and her centennial house is still in
Ballard, Seattle. Eight year ago, the woman was offered one million
dollars for the hose, but she did not agree on it.
Edith Macefield moved into this house back in 1966. Within several
years, Seattle has been absorbed in a construction boom. Many tried to
buy this spot, but all of them were refused. It got to the point when in
2006 she was offered one million dollars, but the persistent Edith
didn’t surrender. As a result, the builder had to integrate her house
into the scenery. Her house became a local landmark, and her image
became an inspiration for the animated movie Up.
